Wilmington International Airport is protected by 5 Full-Time Firefighters and 9 Public Safety Officers cross-trained in Aircraft Rescue Firefighting. We respond to approximately 200 calls annually including aircraft incidents, medical emergencies, hazmat spills, fire alarms, and water rescue incidents. We teach Fire Life Safety Education by conducting fire station tours to approximately 500 kids and adults yearly. We also teach fire extinguisher and driver training for our airport tenants. We provide fire protection for and inspect the fixed based operator (FBO) every 90 days to ensure their fuel service vehicles and fuel farm facilities stay in compliance with both the National Fire Protection Agency Standard for Aircraft Fuel Servicing (NFPA 407) and Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR Part 139).
ILM is also a certified car seat checking station. If you need help installing a car seat into a vehicle, please call ILM’s Public Safety Office at 910-341-4336
